Have You Found The Magic Beans?
Marketing Guru Seth Godin wrote this today:
New media (social networks–Facebook & Twitter) isn’t the perfect marketing medium, and it won’t be until we find the magic beans.
TV had magic beans for forty years. For forty years, anyone, even a complete moron, could make a lot of money using TV ads. Buy enough ads, don’t screw up, you’re rich.
The hard part was buying enough ads, but once you did that, victory could be declared.
On the web, there are countless marketers just standing around waiting for someone to hand them the magic beans. And that’s the problem.
Marketing online takes too much measurement, patience, creativity, technical knowledge, flexibility, speed and authenticity. It requires too much thinking and not enough going out for dinner with clients.
Perhaps there will never be magic beans again. Perhaps marketing is about to transition to a new kind of profession, one that requires insight, dedication and smarts.
Or maybe someone will find some magic beans.
Seth is right of course, but he failed to mention there is a marketing concept that already has the magic beans. You and I have it.
For longer than marketing has been measured, word-of-mouth marketing has been the one tried and true way of getting the message out—one evangelist at a time.
This simple friend-to-friend concept is working for companies that have skyrocketed past a billion in sales, and it’s working for thousands of small ones—in 100 countries around the world. The growth rate is staggering.
To market your product on TV takes big money—and in the age of Tivo, people are fast forwarding past all those commercials some company paid a fortune to buy.
Radio is less expensive, but in the days of XM and Sirius, your ads would be heard by far fewer people. I know, I owned radio stations in Jacksonville, Florida and we could see the writing on the wall.
The HOT stuff today is Facebook, Twitter, and all the new social media sites that seem to be multiplying like rabbits. So far, the people who created these sites haven’t figured out how to have them make money.
There are thousands, if not millions of people who sit around all day trying to figure out how to use the social media sites to market their products. So far, they haven’t found the magic.
And that brings us back to word-of-mouth marketing — the one surefire way of getting products into the marketplace. And if it goes viral— it goes really FAST!
Did you know 74% of all product purchases are made on the recommendation of a friend like YOU?
Now that’s what I call the magic beans!
You can stop looking for the magic, you already have it!
An Example of The Power of Duplication

The Long Tail: Why the Future of Business Is Selling Less of More
Over the years I have encountered lots of prospects who just couldn’t get past the idea that in Shaklee, we sell a few products to a lot of people. It just seems like such a small sale and in their mind — it’s hard to make the connection that you can make serious money selling “small ticket items.”
What most people fail to understand is just how powerful it can be when you add up all that product useage from all the faithful users in your group.
For example …
In the month of September, our Personal Group (Henderson Marketing) generated 3,081.96 group PV …
Our total organization generated 1,442,805.50 in Business Group Volume.
As you can see … It’s not the size of the individual order that makes the difference … it’s the combined total of those “small ticket items” that create the big check.
This bit of factual information should serve as postive proof that Dr. Shaklee’s unique marketing strategy of — ” selling a few products to millions of people on a repeat basis” — is a powerful business concept that, as the world changes, will only get bigger.
There is a new book called … The Long Tail: Why the Future of Business Is Selling Less of More.
This book is based on the understanding that — our economy is being greatly changed by the Internet.
For the last 100 years
– businesses have been looking for the “big hit” to provide profits. But today … an increasingly large share of profits are coming from the “long tail” - small sales of niche products.
Author Chris Anderson theorizes …
“The emerging digital economy is going to be radically
different from today’s mass market. If the twentieth-century was
about big hits … the twenty-first will be equally about niches.”
You have probably never thought of youself as a “niche marketer” but it might be a good idea to start thinking of your business this way …
As a Network (nitche) Marketer, you are in the right place at the right time!
The Purse That Never Empties!
Network marketing has lots of advantages that traditional small business or jobs can’t match. I think the greatest advantage is LEVERAGE.
Archemedes said, “ Give me a fulcrum strong enough and a lever long enough and single handed, I can move the world.”
As a Shaklee business owner, you get to leverage the entrepreneurship, time, talent, skill, brainpower and passion of other people.
Not so in a traditional job or small business where you are, in effect, trading time for money. Here are a few questions you might want to consider …
Do you have a job?
How many hours did you work today?
How many did you get paid for?
Will you be paid again tomorrow for the hours you worked today?
How long will you continue to be paid if you stop working?
As long as you trade time for money, your income is limited. What you need is leverage.
The Shaklee business model gives us one of the great leveraged opportunities in the world today. It is possible to get paid for a lifetime on the effort you make today! Building an organization of leaders, no matter how large or small gives you leveraged, walk-away income.
The book, “The Richest Man in Babylon,” is the story of a wealthy man named Arcad. It was said of Arcad … he had the purse that never emptied!
That’s residual income … the fruits of LEVERAGE.
Time Freedom—The New Currency
More people are making more money today than at any time in history, but most have no time to enjoy the fruits of their labor because all their time is spent on the labor. Like it or not, most people only believe what they can see.
If you are new to Shaklee and just getting started, you might be saying to yourself … I'm new and I don't have any proof to show. First, that is where we all begin in this business … brand new with nothing to show. That's why you talk about, and show proof of, what your upline has done and is doing.
Your upline is all the poof you need to show. Your upline did it, they are helping you do it, and your upline and you will help them do it too. But ….
The sooner you become the example of success that you are talking about to others, the sooner others will follow your lead because you become the proof of someone they know … that the Shaklee business works!

Network Marketing Arrives
Major corporations like Sprint, MCI, Gillette, Coca Cola, and Yamanouchi Pharmaceutical were first to see the light and embrace the network marketing business model …
More recently, Billionaires like Warren Buffet, Donald Trump, and Roger Barnett have joined the parade.
Lee Iacocca, father of the Ford Mustang and later the CEO of Chrysler Corporation, is a true believer.
Here’s what he has to say about this industry …
“As Chairman of both Ford and Chrysler Corporations I’ve spent $billions in advertising. I can tell you nothing is more powerful than the face-to-face network marketing concept. That’s why I have chosen this method to market my line of environmental products.”
We’ve only just begun!
“I Can Sit Down and Write Us a Pool!”
I woke up in the middle of the night with this thought running through my head.
It's hard to make more passive income per hour than through the network marketing business model.
When a person that you have sponsored (which takes a few hours and some follow-up) goes on to generate thousands, even millions of dollars in volume that you get a piece of … well, it's hard to beat that doing brain surgery.
John Lennon once said,
“I can sit down and write us a swimming pool."
He meant … because the Beatles had an audience ready to buy any new record they made … anytime they felt like buying something new, all they had to do was write a song. How cool.
As amazing as it sounds, all of us in Shaklee have that same opportunity.
This is not just a crazy idea … it's a sound principal that has been proven over and over for almost 50 years. Just think about the power of this model.
Once you understand the simple skill sets you need to find, present and teach someone who is willing to embrace your offer … you wake up every morning with an opportunity to turn the money spigot.
You CAN literally create income at will! It may take a little longer for it to play out and get the residual income flowing … but when it happens … the end result is the same.
The owner of a factory or restaurant or pet shop or even a doctor without this model has no such ability.
Don't you think it's worth a serious investment of time, effort and energy to master the skill sets you need to make this happen?
John Lennon’s secret can be your secret and it gives you the opportunity to open doors not open to mere mortals.
Why Network Marketing

“How a simple business model, created 50 years ago is changing what it means to be an entrepreneur … and is poised to drive the next major economic powerhouse."
